The yellowish- white fat gets extracted out of the Karitébaum
This tree is rooted in various regions in Africa and can reach a hight up to 20 meter.
On it´s branches the Sheanuts grow in racemose formations.
Even though they are called nuts they belong to the berrycrops
Sheannuts consist of 50 procent fat.
To gain the actual sheabutter the shell of the nuts gets peeled off and the remaining kernel gets milled in a complex procedure.
Afterwards it is mixed with warm water and kneaded into mashlike bulk.
The fat that gets substracted by this method sediments on the water surface and can be scooped off.
When this extract cools down it gets hard and the sheabutter is ready.
